Ishu Patel

“I would break all the cinematic rules… as long as you know how to draw properly, you can decide what kind of drawings you create.”

Where he calls home: Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Fluid frame technique: clay on glass

Fluid frame films: Afterlife (1994), Top Priority (2002)

ProTip: When I came to the NFB, most films were very complex 3 dimensional drawings, with sand and paint on glass. But I didn’t want to do that; I wanted to do drawings like I did when I was a boy from the village, when I had no idea of anatomy and perspective and drew everything linear. So, I would break all the cinematic rules; you make up your own rules, but you have to know about the rules first. As long as you know how to draw properly, you can decide what kind of drawings you create.
